Introduction

In the region where exists a significant difference between day and night temperatures, night ventilation is efficient to cool buildings only if they are sufficiently inert. It is a cooling technique which is used to dissipate excess heat from the building materials by ventilating a building during the night hours (low temperature) and closing it during day-time to minimize the incoming of external loads.

Brief Description

Benefits of Night Ventilation:

Night ventilation is a different operational strategy which takes advantage of the natural variations in temperature to promote cooling. It offers many advantages:

• Because of the lower night-time temperatures, the temperature difference between inside and outside will be greater, enhancing both the stack-driven flow-rates and the cooling of the outside air

• By cooling the fabric of the building in this way, the mean radiant temperature of the space is reduced, improving thermal comfort the following day

• By ventilating during unoccupied periods, the potential problems of draughts and noise in the occupied space are avoided
